Many congratulations to our Commodore Ewan Macpherson, who has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list for his voluntary service to sailing.
Ewan has been involved in the sport for over 50 years, learning to sail with the Sea Scouts in Glasgow, then racing dinghies and cruising the west coast of the UK. After periods abroad, he returned to Largs in the 1990's, and set up a training centre with the Sea Scouts, and manning the "beach" for major events at Largs SC.
He joined Largs SC's executive committee in 2002, and served his first spell as commodore 2005-6. Work then took Ewan to the Aberdeen area, but he continued to support us, particularly at major events. He joined the RYA Scotland Council in 2007, and progressed through to his current position as chairman.
Ewan has dedicated his award to everyone he has worked with during his long career.
“I think this award is a real reflection of everyone I’ve worked with. I’ve been sailing all of my life and worked with hundreds of people whose efforts have made all this possible. I feel like I’m accepting this on behalf of all of them."
