Training

The Largs Sail Training Association (LSTA) is an RYA recognised Training Centre based at Largs Sailing club and runs an active training program for adult and junior members of the club. The LSTA has a modern fleet of training boats suited to a range of ages and abilities, allowing us to provide training for beginners from the first time they step in a boat up to advanced techniques such as sailing with spinnakers. The fleet includes:

  • 5 RS Visions
  • 5 RS Fevas
  • 5 RS Q'bas
  • 12 RS Teras
  • 8 Oppies

How to get Started

Learning to sail in a dinghy is a great way to get started on the water. There are two main training pathways. The youth training scheme from 8 up to 16 and the adult scheme for over 16s.

Youth Training

To get started with us we recommend a weekend introduction to sailing course, this will cover the basics of getting afloat and sailing the boat. The beginners will normally go out under close supervision in our single handers and by the end of the course will be able to sail and turn the boat. With this group we have a learning by doing approach keeping it fun. We would then encourage them to join in on our Thursday evening sessions where we build their knowledge and confidence.

Adult Training

To get started with us can be done either through a weekend started session, or joining in with the Monday evening beginner classes. These will normally be sailed initially in our larger boats with an instructor on board giving direct instruction, and then trying different boats and sailing on your own.

Evening Training

Through the summer we run weekly training sessions in the evenings.

  • Thursday Information Evening April 25th

  • Monday evenings from April 22nd to August 19th:

    • Adults - beginners and improvers.
  • Thursday evenings from April 25th to August 22nd: Junior and youth cadets
