Training

The Largs Sail Training Association (LSTA) is an RYA recognised Trainig Centre based at Largs Sailing club and runs an active training program for adult and junior members of the club.

The LSTA has a modern fleet of training boats suited to a range of ages and abilities, allowing us to provide training for beginners from the first time they step in a boat up to advanced techniques such as sailing with spinnakers. The fleet includes:

  • 6 RS Visions
  • 6 RS Fevas
  • 6 RS Q'bas
  • 12 RS Teras
  • 8 Oppies

Evening Training

Through the summer we run weekly training sessions in the evenings. 

  • Thursday Information Evening April 21st
  • Monday evenings from April 25th to August 22nd:
    • Senior Cadets (14 and over)
    • Adults - beginners and improvers
  • Thursday evenings from April 28th to August 25th: Junior Cadets (8-13)
    • Beginners (After completion of Weekend Course)
    • Intermediate 1
    • Intermediate 2

We will also run supported racing for cadets & adults (with RYA YSS Stage 3 or Level 2) as part of the club's racing program on Wednesday evenings.

Weekend and Summer Courses

In 2021 we ran some YSS 1 beginners weekends as an introduction to sailing before new starters joined the Thursday evening sessions. We felt that this was a successful approach and are going to repeat in 2022. 

  • YSS1 Weekend 30 April / 01 May
  • YSS2 Weekend 14-14 May

We are also planning to run a youth sailing week in the Summer there will be courses suitable for different levels of experience. 

  • Youth Sailing Week: 8th to 12th August

Booking Training

You must be an LSC member to take part in regular training, however non-members are very welcome on short courses. Non-member course fees include temporary membership of the club for the duration of the course. Courses can all be booked and paid for through the online webcollect booking system using the link below.
