Many congratulations (again!) to Ewan Macpherson, our past commodore, and retiring chairman of RYA Scotland, for his RYA Regional Volunteer award, for many years of committed and passionate support to sailing across Scotland. This is further recognition of his amazing contribution to our sport, and follows the award of an MBE to him in the Honours List in summer 2018 (see the LSC e-news at the time).
The text of Ewan's RYA citation reads:
"From his early days as a Sea Scout Leader, Ewan has introduced countless young people to the sea. He has been instrumental in delivering international events and teaching sailing at Largs Sailing Club, where he served as Commodore twice. He joined the Management Committee of RYA Scotland in 2011, stepped up to Vice Chair in 2014 and became Chair in 2017 when he pursued the introduction of specific representation on the Board for young people.
He has brought passion, consideration and strategic thinking to the organisation, giving his time and energy freely and often travelling great distances at short notice to attend a meeting or represent the organisation. Changing the structure of the organisation to meet and develop current challenges has been his priority.
At clubs and events in Scotland there are always people who know Ewan. They smile when talking about him and remembering where they have met him before. A true friend to sailing and sailors in Scotland, he has led the Board skilfully and leaves a legacy of which he can be proud."
